The rugged mountain route to the plains is a tough drive; but the hauntingly beautiful surroundings & majestic scenery will keep them enthralled throughout the journey. Horton Plains is a highland plateau comprising montane grassland and elfin forest. The full day nature trail covering World’s End, a scenic viewpoint with a dramatic drop & Baker’s Falls is approximately 18-20Km in total.
Horton Plains is situated to the south of Nuwara Eliya. This plain is a unique ecological zone of wet patana grassland with a cloud forest and is home to unique and endemic wildlife.
Its the coldest and windiest location in Sri Lanka consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem. At an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, Horton Plains spreads across over 3,169 hectares of the highest tableland of the island. In view of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species, Horton Plains was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30th July 2010. The escarpment with a depth of 900 meters called World’s End.
